The Magic Miner's Lantern is an audio drama, narrated story that Fabulists have developed for Winter 2024 for Bolsover Castle in Bolsover,
Derbyshire.

Developed for English Heritage's, Bolsover Castle’s 2024 Christmas programme, this original family audio drama combined heritage-inspired storytelling, narration, music, sound design and visual installation.

​The story tells the tale of young orphan boy Samuel who is missing his family and takes comfort in lighting the old miner's lamp that his father has left him. The lamp is magic and each time he lights it he is transported to the magical land of Luminar where the best toyshop ever offers children the chance to enjoy themselves playing with the toys that have all come alive.

The Ice Queen is offended by the warmth that the lamp offers and in retaliation brings a huge ice storm to Bolsover, the likes of which, nobody has ever seen. 

Samuel and his friend Nancy team up to ensure that Bolsover remains warm and hopeful despite the coal supplies running out as the town freezes over.

Will Samuel and Nancy save the day or will the ice Queen keep Bolsover frozen and dark forever?
